How Technology Has Changed Education

Technology has a huge impact on our daily life. Education is also affected by technology, of course in a positive way. Since the introduction of the Internet, the world of ‘Learning’ became easier for everyone all around the globe. Technology is now used to support both teaching and learning, technology implants classrooms with digital learning tools, extends course offerings, experiences, and learning materials; supports learning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; builds 21st-century skills, increases student engagement and motivation and accelerates learning through some simple process.

In some ways, education is the same as it has been for many years. The teacher delivers his speech/lecture in front of the students who are sitting in a row; listening. Some students have their books open and act like they are following the class, some are talking to others, some are really attentive and some are even in deep sleep. A cynic would say that technology has done nothing to change education.

However, in many ways, technology has profoundly changed education. The increasing utilization of technology is changing the manner in which basic processes in education are being carried out. Educational software development has made the process of Learning easy for everyone. From laptops, and educational apps to online courses, technology has changed the face of education today. All kinds of workspaces are using technology to get their work done. So, knowing how to utilize technology is the one qualification that every job seeks. What better way to prepare for a tech-savvy job than with a tech-savvy education?

Here are some of the most profound ways in which technology has changed education so far.

Breaking down boundaries

With gadgets like iPods, smartphones, or tablets, for instance, students are no longer confined to a computer lab. When an assignment is available students can work on it inside their classroom, at home, while waiting on the bus, in the middle of classes, etc. Mobile classroom innovation can help students to form a bridge between classroom and home learning.

Increasing Accessibility

One of the most significant ways in which technology has changed education is that it has made it more accessible than the way it was a few decades before. Now it is possible for anyone to take any formal educational courses via online courses. Most institutions of higher learning now offer a wide range of educational courses on an online basis.

Interaction between teachers and students

In the past, a face-to-face meeting was the only way for teachers to interact with their students. It was impossible for the students to get any information or guidelines without a physical meeting with the teacher. Those days are long gone now; now it is easy for students and teachers to stay in touch via email or other services of the internet. But the need for a physical meeting between teachers and student remains vital.

Encouraging collaboration

One of the basic features of the modern classroom is collaboration and technology helps to empower it. The classroom technology made it easier for the students and their teachers to collaborate in and outside of the classroom quickly and easily.

Making Learning Fun Again

Another feature of education that technology changed significantly is the way of delivering the learning content. As a result of technology, it is no longer necessary to stick to the traditional process of teaching and learning. Teachers can now use videos, animations, and other forms of content to enhance the process of learning; thus students can learn easily but with more fun.
